Chocolate, nutty, very low acidity, big body
100% Robusta. If you find it too strong, you are too weak! This “Special” offers coffee beans with very low acidity, lots of crema and a very big body. Yes, it is strong! Robusta coffee beans have twice the caffeine content of Arabica beans since they grow at lower altitudes. With their increased caffeine content, they defend themselves against potential pests which are more prevalent at this altitude. Furthermore, the aromas will remind you of chocolate and pecan nuts. While the aroma profile of Robustas is narrower than the one of good Arabica beans, traditional coffee drinkers will love this strong low acidity coffee, which floats like oil in your cup.
If you find it really too strong, then best blend it for example with our Leal 50/50 or even more.
“This side up” provides these coffee beans. This small Dutch company plays a vital part in green coffee trading. Their trade helps farmers and roasters build a relationship, but even more important, they invest in their farmers in ways that increase the quality of beans, and pay their three producers above market price (65% more for this Robusta!!)
Interesting side note: this coffee is their first Robusta. It is part of an ambitious project with two NGOs to create a specialty Robusta standard for this region in Indonesia. As a result, the three coffee farming families now benefit from greater harvests and better prices.
